Undo sending an email in Gmail or Outlook

Who has not had a moment of regret after sending an email? We can all pass: we can lose control and send an email to someone we should not, such as a boss or an ex-couple. Or we may send an email to the wrong person. Then we all wonder: What now?

Luckily for everyone, services like Gmail have been able to undo a shipment for some time now. Not only the Google email client, but Outlook also lets us retrieve a message after sending it so that it never reaches its destination. In this article we are going to tell you how to recover those emails sent.

Undoing a Send in Gmail

First, go to the Gmail website with your Google account. In the upper right corner of the screen, click the gear icon. In the menu that appears, choose “Settings”. On the “General” tab, scroll down until you see the following option.

Check it and adjust the time to undo the delivery that suits you best. The cancellation period lets you choose times of five, 10, 20 or 30 seconds. Now scroll down again until you see the “Save Changes” button. Press it so that the parameters you just modified will stay that way.

Now what you can do is test the feature. Write an email and send it. You will see the following at the top of the screen.

To reclaim the sent message, simply click on “Undo” so that the message never reaches its destination. From there you will return to your drafts folder, where you can continue editing or delete it forever.

How to undo a send in Outlook

How to undo a shipment in the desktop version of Microsoft Outlook, which is included by default in Microsoft Office. You can do the same in the web version , and with a much simpler process.

The steps to follow are very similar to those of Gmail. First we will have to enter with our account of Outlook, and once there we press again in the icon of the gear in the top right of the screen. In the menu that will appear, we click on “Options”. We will arrive at this screen:

In it we click on the “Undo sending” section , which is highlighted in the previous image.

We set the option “Allow me to cancel messages sent during:”, which has a drop down menu. As in the case of Gmail, it allows us to vary the cancellation time from five to 10, 20 and 30 seconds. When we have selected it, we click on “Save” and you are ready.

Now, as we did in the previous case, we again check if it works. Write any message and send it. At the top right of the screen you will see this.

To reclaim the mail, click on “Undo” so that it is among your drafts again. As you can see, the process does not have any difficulties and, best of all, it will avoid unnecessary scares.
